Waaa! Just a quick note from work, as I'm still internetzless and probably will be for a while longer. If some of the stuff I type comes out wrong it's because I'm typing on querty boards here -Belgian boards are azerty.
Arrived on Monday, signed contracts on Tuesday, started yesterday and now I'm here. :p Been running around mostly getting papers, metro passes, food, a bank account, etc etc. I'm not really doing anything much around here so far, becaue the prject ze're supposed to work on hasn't launched yet and I don"t have much of a clue (yet) what it is about.
I don't really have a cubicle but something that resembles it. Anyway, colleagues are nice so far (even tho they're Dutch ) and I feel ok, that's all we need right?
Will report back later! Booyah!
PS Czech is HHAAAARRD. Knowing French, English, Dutch, Latin and some German and Spanish I can make out the main jist of most phrases in other Western European lingos, but this is Slavic and a whole, brave, new world. But the bigger the challenge, the more fun!

Maybe Greek/Russian might give you a better idea of Slavic lingo, not sure.
As for the project being vague, that sounds pretty cool to me. How are they paying you?

Actually, the pay is crap Well, it's a Czech wage and for those standards it's actually pretty good. But I'm not getting rich here, don't worry. I'll return to Belgium a poor man, so pretty much status quo.
But I'm not here for the pay but for the city. Prague seems to rox0r, judging by the few days I've been here.

hehe, yea...why hack it when you can just make it work the way it is?
Anyway, nice to hear you're doing well. Is this a contract position that's going to expire or a perma-job? You sound like you're just there for a little while.

I actually have messenger on this pc, but I try not to get on during most of the day because I'm surrouded by tons of people here. But sometimes I can get on for a little bit, so fingers crossed!
It's supposed to be a pretty longterm position yeah...there's a 3-month trial period (in which I can be fired or can resign immediately) and after that a 'permanent' contract. (indeterminate length contract in Dutch)
NORMALLY speaking I should be able to stay here for a while, because a company doesn't usually go through the trouble of getting somebody here just to fire them a month later...but I'm also one of the last additions to the team and have absolutely no clue what to do or how to operate the programs here. The project goes live in less than a month so I'll need to step up. Chances are that i'll get fired when they see they've got too much personnel for the job(s), because i'm the least experienced one. Otoh i'm also brilliant so I should be able to surpass most coworkers in less than a month.
Will keep you posted!

Haha, i'm sure you will pwn everyone else once you get the hang of things. One good friend of mine (that is exceedingly accomplished) said the bit in life where you learn the most, is the first few weeks of your first real job. Im happy for you that it sounds pretty permanent too.

yea, congrats dude. Good luck on your first REAL job. That's the one that makes the difference. Hope it's a positive experience. My first job just made me hate people and ringing phones.

Mine might want to examine people's skulls in interesting ways.....
Actually this kindof happened to someone with one of my professors. He was walking through Kings Manor (the Archaeology department) when the professor came up to him and said
"you have an interesting skull, can I have it when you're dead"
Personally I think the professor is a legend tho, but I think that about half my lecturers

Hey Biatches! Here I am again, dropping a few lines before getting back to work. Well, maybe more than a few cos I basically don't have anhy work scheduled for today. But I still gotta be careful not to have peopl catch me too much writing stuff on forums or messing around in hotmail etc.
For starters: thanks for all the previous encouragements in this thread! I lub you all. I'm doing pretty darn fine over here, I got everything fixed up except for one thing: finding my own apartment. I'm still in the temporary accomodation and keeping it real. Unfortunately, I have to suffer the presence of a roommate since a few days. She's nice enough and doesn't bother me but I'm kinda psycho about my privacy. Nobody better touch my stuff! And especially not my laptop.
So now I'm speeding up the search for an apartment because I only have like 2 weeks left where I am now before they boot me out. Fingers crossed! As you will have noticed I don't have internet at home either because of this, and the only time I ca acces the web is at work which isn't really easy with this open office structure and ppl patrolling.
Work kinda sucks, I mean the job itself. Way below my level and completely uninteresting, but the atmosphere is fun and the colleagues are ok. So I'm happy, but looking out for doing jobs that I love on the side (translations etc). I'm not learning much here, but then I don't regard office work as real skill. But hey, as long as it pays...I'll do a half-assed job, which is more than enough given my qualities. I think I'll move into the games industry or something once I learn Czech, we'll see. There's a pretty famous Czech games developer that could need someone like me.
But enough thinking aloud. I'm not dead just yet, but busy and not hooked up to the interwebs yet. I'm also thinking of shipping over my big pc because I feel like a pariah missing out on big games like STALKER, C&C 3, Shivering Isles and many more. Hope to be able to post a lot more soon, speak to you all later!!

Short, Spanish and extremely skinny. So not my cup of tea
Still, having never lived with a woman before, I fall from one surprise into another. Does she really use all those 20 shampoos and creams and perfumes? Amd where did that mirror go that used to be in the hallway?
