Yeah it is a bad situation but again it isn't as bad a the tsunami. As for the stupidity, read my new topic, My Little Rant Against Conservatism

Looks like an armed population isn't all that helpful for rescue operations. hehe.

This make the US look bad, especially New Orleans.
This didn't happen to other countries when the tsunami hit.
At least they where "civilized"

Rape? Jesus freaking Christ. What a bunch of goddamn assholes. I hope they (the rapists) drown horribly in sewage water. That's sick, sick shit.

Sounds to me like the national guard needs to draw weapons and put these fuckers in their places. Declare martial law and use military tribunals to execute (by gunfire) anyone that perpetrates a major offense. That'll put the fuckers down.
Please realize that these people are probably the dregs of society. Anyone with money/connections got out and stayed with relatives or something. You're probably looking mainly at the poor.
then again, you didn't hear about shit like this in the tsunami.

"Do you think these people care about their dog? "
I think they supposedly cared about their dog. And then, when given plenty of warning that they were in line of a hurricane, and to evacuate, they were dumb enough to stay. And those smart enough to evacuate were so insistent on taking only their 'loved family' that they forgot their loved pet and let the bugger drown.
On the rape/beaten thing, that seriously sucks. Wonder if its other flood victims or just 'outsiders' who've come in to cause havoc and harm? Bastards, either way.

About animals.
Yes, I love animals and I hate to see animals left behind. But when have humans left behind and dieing, humans > animals. Im sorry but thats reality.
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/09/01/D8CBPBCG0.html
About people left behind
Look, I dont think youre understanding this. These people have NO CARS, they have LITTLE MONEY! How are you supposed to evacuate a city when you have NO TRANSPORTATION? These are very poor people. The average yearly income in New orleans is $18,000. All these people that got stuck behind have no where to go. And they have no means to get anywhere.
Im sure the rest of the people who did evacute didnt leave there animals behind because they have cars to get out.
The reason I think you have chaos down there is 3 fold.
#1 Leadership has failed. All their plans failed and they didnt react so enough. That goes from the bottom all the way up to President Bush who was vacationing when all this happened.
#2 These people are poor and not to civilized to begin with. Some have not eaten for 3 - 4 days. They have no water or restrooms or medical aid. Right now its every man for himself.
#3 This is America. Why is that important? The people that got hit by the tsunami where very poor. They where already used to poor conditions, eating little, drinking little, and living in slums. Most of them dont have much, like tvs and nice cloths. They are very simple people who dont need much to enjoy life. On contrast, you have Americans who are mostly overweight and in bad health. They sit on the couch all day and watch oprah and do drugs. They live off mcdonalds and other food that is high in fat. They drink coke and the majority of them where probably already dehydrated before the storm like most Americans are. So they are not used to this conditions and they still value material postions over life.

You say that I understand these people now have no choice in leaving behind the animals - and i did some research today about the animal situation there - mayn organizations are trying to feed them but.... i truthfully only found 3 which were big names there helping - ie the ones who have the means to help house the animals. And I dunno about others here in Texas abd surrounding areas - but even though keep in mind i have a small zoo (3 dogs, cat, 3 water turtles, 2 tortoises, fish...... i will start my plead to the satis to let us foster some or at least one of these animals until their owners can find them or places where they can keep them. See thing is - these bastards are embarrasing me with their looting, shooting, violence. i understand looting for food, water - but the rest shows their character - better to get rid of em now. Just send in a few good ole boys from texas and let the stereotypes start their work. I guaranty that you let us in - or national guard etc. this will stop!!!! and fast - as i assure you their numbers will shrink if it doesn't. Regardless I hide my head being American often - had to deal with my step mother telling me of how see how no other countries come to help us etc - we don't need the help - except maybe in civilization - and last i check other countries were helping - immediately i think of canada - who we mock often - yet last i checked sent in their aid groups to help the ssituation too.
I understand these people are suffering there - they are tired, hungry, desprate. However, this does not mean we tear apart the very fabric of which makes us human. We can be truely amazing when we want to be - and our darkest nightmare just as easy. Just shows which face people want to see.

It's pretty fascinating that a lot of the looters are stealing stuff they can't do shit with atm (electrical apparel). Maybe they're deluded by the focus on wealth in our societies, dunno.
I know a lot of ppl won't agree with me, but the gun possession is probably responsible for a lot of crap atm. If it's really true that there are armed gangs going around raping, looting and whatnot then that doesn't even need explaining. Sure, you can round up gangs to do that in a society where guns aren't that present too, but the threat would be very much diminished. Anyway, idiots will be idiots of course, but idiots with guns are even worse.
@ Shiny: yeah, your stepmom is way off there...a lot of countries are offering their help, of course. Canada, Russia, Thailand, the EU, European countries on their own, you name it. And they've been doing so since the hurricane struck, Bush didn't think foreign help would be necessary a week ago. I hope she understands that disagreeing with something like Iraq is not the same as letting ppl starve and die after a natural disaster.

just fyi, it's been proven in some of our states.
Outlawing guns means that only outlaws have guns. Case in point would by NYC. It's illegal for anyone there to possess a gun...so, the only people that have guns are the cops, and the people murdering you. I'd rather be given the option of defending myself.
Anyway....these 'armed gangs roaming around' doing whatever were probably the same people that were armed gangs roaming around before the flood, only now there aren't any cops to contain them. I still maintain the national guard should blast these losers.

World stunned as US struggles with Katrina
Its true. Honestly though, I think this situation is localized. I know in other parts of the country, like NY after 9/11 for instance, this looting and civil disorder would not happen. This is just a disgrace to America.
