yea, according to the article, it requires some very hotly debated ideas in physics to be true...so, it may happen, but chances are it won't. It sure would be neat, though. I still maintain that we can accomplish absolutely anything that we can imagine. It only takes some time and alot of sweat.

Scientists work really hard.

Which is probably why they smell.

While the US is making warp engines, scientists are attempting to recreate the conditions of a big bang 100 meters under the ground in Switzerland. :)

Interesting stuff!

When it is switched on for a pilot run in summer 2007, this huge physics experiment will collide two beams of particles head-on at super-fast speeds, recreating the conditions in the Universe moments after the Big Bang.

The beam collisions should create showers of new particles, revealing new physics beyond the Standard Model.

it sounds kinda scary, too. :P

Yes I enjoy the idea of a new universe been created on the earth. The words we're dead spring to mind.

No it isn't its just natural cowardice due to a highly efficient imagination. To be honest it would require some special stuff. A vacuum for one, the ability to create a super dense particle, etc.

If you managed to create a singularity under Switzerland...well...that could be interesting. I suppose it would depend on the size of the singularity...if it was sufficiently tiny, I suppose it could sink into the earth's core and we wouldn't really notice what it was doing. But, if it were large enough, it'd slowly tear the world apart. Outstanding.

Exactly. Now I really think a survival instinct might be best here.

definetely...we need to convince all the countries in the world to get together, build a huge "ark" type space ship, load it full of beer, hot women, myself, and a few other men (for genetic diversity's sake) and launch us toward the nearest inhabitable planet.

It's for the children.
