Apple says what clothes you can wear
..heh...sorta.
You may not be familiar with it, but Applie's selling this Nike+Ipod thing.. it's basically a sensor that you fit into a special place on your shoes, plug it into your ipod and runners can use their ipod as a pedometer (measures speed and distance). Pretty neat stuff, and lots of people have been using with other than the Nike shoe it's meant for. Apparently there're easy ways to adapt it to any shoe.
But Apple doesn't like that and are now trying to lock down the device to only function with the specific shoe it was sold for.

It may be no surprise, but I hate Apple. And this is why... vendor lock-in. They try to lock you to their hardware, their software, and they don't like competition. They're basically total bastards. However, if they keep this kind of thing up, they're just going to alienate all their customers and drive themselves out of business. YAY!

Customers are morons who don't care about these things. If they did, Apple would never have become popular anyway.

perhaps.... I doubt they'll go totally out of business. For some reason they encourage a fanatic following.
However, for people used to openess (ie, PC users), this kind of behavior is a total turn off. For people used to choice to be forced into something like that is a pretty poor marketing strategy.
At least, that's how I see it. I can't say I'm an average consumer. My hatred of Apple verges on the fanatic.

that plain sucks. I don't mind Apple (though I dislike their un-moddable (in theory) computers I'd have one if they ran most games) but everything they make is overly expensive, but yes, tying you down to just this one shoe in particular... idiots!
Apple are one of those rare companies who make things that function well, look good and are just downright useful. I love my iPod but I would never have actually paid for my iPod though - thanks to Mole for my christmas present so if they actually just paid attention to people they might realise they could still charge their above average prices if they just stopped being so... exclusive.
I'm not an apple fan by any means, though I'd probably have an apple over a pc if games actually worked on 'em without having to install a windows emulator. And if I was a runner/still did lots of walking I'd probably be in the same boat with the ipod/pedometer thing; I'd buy one if it wasn't only available in one brand of shoe. The average person won't buy a shoe they don't like/aren't comfortable with and the average person also doesn't want/doesn't know how to mod things to make them work.

Apple is selling shoes now to control every penny someone anywhere might earn with something related to their products? lmao.
I agree, Apple is the mark of the devil. As is Facebook (but we've been over that). I mean, sure, you look all slick and yuppie with your shiny, compact and designish Ibook, but what's that gonna get you apart from attention from some stuckup girls that you can't afford to maintain financially anyway?
i'll take a gritty pc any day.

There is no level of depravity I won't sink into. Except ear sex, that's just plain sick.
