Regarding the physics of hell, it disobeys the laws of thermodynamics since souls are punished for eternity. If they obeyed physics then you'd be punished for awhile until slowly dissolving into a less-ordered state.

Or something. There are other arguments and interpretations, but to me the only way god/heaven/satan/hell could be real is if they existed outside of the laws of physics and were just able to kind of pop in and affect our universe somehow.

Maybe the screams they're hearing are the screams of people in coffins that echoed down into the earth and have been bouncing around in there forever.
