I am special - just like everybody else.....

Interesting article about a study where college generation kids currently are all about themselves. This belief shows a breakdown in the basics of society when everything in centered on the individual verus a group mentality. I say that is why there are so many annoying ass kids in the games I like to play..... but I that is another subjetc I suppose.
Anyway, I run into this kinda issue all the time even with a coworker recently who decided that it was other peoples issue when her children cause a ruckess at resteraunts and if they do not like it they ones offended by it could leave - versus considering others and taking your children out of that enviornment so as to not upset the herd mentailty.
What do y'all think?

I'm hardly suprised. On the situation given about the kids in a resturaunt, I think that it's somewhere in the middle where you should be. At the end of the day if I had a kid that was a miss behaving little prick, I wouldn't be taking him out to fancy places anyway. Thus avoiding said situation.
But even so, I'm a self admiting selfish bastard - Pev will agree with that.

Well i certainly notice that kids don't like criticism at all, so 'they are all above average' isn't such a bad sentence used in that article.
Is it good that kids these days dare speak their minds, come up for what they belief in? yes
Is it good/normal that a lot of kids are plain brutal, have no respect for anything, are just interested in what they want (or have no interests at all)? no
For the biggest part i blame parents. I'm sure it isn't easy to raise a kid, but you have to teach your kid certain values. And what i see every day is that a lot of kids don't have a 'home', and that their parents don't seem to be interested in educating them.
They seem to think that's what school for, but they forget that the main education (values, morals, interests ... ) needs to be given and surely supported by the parents as well. By the parents in the first place i'd say.
So what i would say to that coworker is: if you don't give your kids a proper education, don't come complaining or don't think you're in your right when other people are annoyed by it or get in conflict with them.
Btw it depends of course what is meant by 'ruckess': kids must be kids and i don't expect kids to sit still on their chairs with their arms crossed not making any noise (taking about younger kids). By all means let them enjoy themselves (to a certain acceptable limit of course), kids always bring live to a place, you can't and shouldn't avoid that.
But you can't think it's okay when they're turning the whole restaurant upside down of course. That's when you should rethink their education.

I'm quite a narcissist myself actually, but I conduct myself far more individually in a manner that doesn't disturb other people. In my earliest years I was quite a little touble-maker, which continued until I was around 15. I wasnt a real asshole, it's just that i liked to cause mischief. I then became much more serious and started thinking about how the world works, which is when i started developing academic interests. Since then i've been very focused on education for a career ambition that has changed little since the past 5 years or so. Right now, i'm more individualistic than ever, in a strange way. I'm constantly after responsibilities, such as Student union representative, paintball team captain, postgrad degree, even helping to start up a small business.
I very much believe though, that the attitude of the average teenager depends on the education he's recieved from the state, and also the upbringing he's recieved by his parents. Parents should supply a child with plenty of happiness, love, and insight. Chavs are scum because they recieve none. Their parents are often involved of a shaky relationship, thus they are unhappy and uninclined to show empathy to their lovechild, and due to their socio-economic exclusion they are ill-equipped to provide insight.

A worrying trend indeed - it's like the constant mantra of "you can do anything you set your mind to" in some schools etc. Of course, that's bull. If you're not lucky/intelligent/less than hideous (appearance is important)/come from a good background you're NOT gonna be able to do anything you set your mind to. Au contraire, you'll be packing boxes at the local pickle plant.
I think the fact that kids believe they're special isn't bad per se, but rather the disillusion that comes from it later on. Take me: I am somewhat brilliant, had an ok upbringing, hold two degrees, and I'm not fugly. Yet, finding a job that's anything more than monkey work is HARD for me. You know? Those ppl who don't have my (already pretty extensive) background in terms of studies aren't getting a good job, ever. Not to start out in anyway.
