Post Idea For Console Footie Game (For Mole, mainly)
Wouldn't it be cool if 'shooting' on footie games in consoles involved a bit more skill and realism?

Imagine this:

For a PS2 like controller, you could have the shooting button as 'square'. But its not that simple. You need to hold 'square' to apply the right amount of shooting power. This is seen on a little bar. Too much power and your shot will fly over/wide and too little will pose no threat.

But there are 2 more things that should be included to complete the shot system:

1. The player you are controlling has his own shooting ability stat. The higher it is, the easier it will be for you to get the power bar right. So lets say, if you were controlling Van Nistelrooy, it would be easier for you to get the right amount of power compared to if you were controlling... Marc Wilmots or something. :) This is beceause the 'optimum target area' on the power bar will be larger.

2. You can also choose to attempt to aim for bottom or top corners. This is done with the L1,2 & R1,2 buttons. So, to pull of a screamer into the top left corner, all you do is hold the shoot button and at the right moment on the power bar press L1. If you dont press to aim for a corner, then the player will simply try to get thew shot on target.

You say for me mainly, but footie games are shit. Football is shit too.

However, I Have played Fifa 2005, and this system is already in it (though you can turn it on and off) the players have their individual skills (which affects the touch to shoot mode aswell) and the power bar comes up. You apply after touch to the ball to aim it where you want.

Top left corner stuff etc just comes in the game, but not as a "press this to aim here" because those buttons i believe are reserved for manouevers.

shit...I thought you were talking about FPS games. I was like...how the hell are you going to blast a room full of people if you're waiting for your power bar to fill up?

Anyway....carry on.

I don't know if those ideas aren't already implemented in some games (at least partially). I remember using L and R buttons to swirl the ball a bit in football games (SNES and Nintendo64 for example), and i also think that the better players have better chance for the ball to end up IN the goal as well (because they have bettter skills).

No my brother had one, but he got rid of it.

That's what i regret a lot, getting rid of my old consoles (NES, SNES), if i could only travel back in time and correct those mistakes.

An obsolete Mac Classic got given to us from a neighbor back when we had a Pentium 1 PC. After we realised it had no productive value, i pulled it apart (like i did with all things electronic) and smashed the monitor.

In retrospect, i regret that because im willing to bet that even today that Mac Classic would have been working.

I'm there....if Ihad any idea how much my old consoles (and by that I mean Atari-old) would be worth by now I'd never gotten rid of them.
